The Mining Innovation, Rehabilitation and Applied Research Corporation (MIRARCO) is a not-for-profit applied research and technical service company at Laurentian University, in Sudbury, Ontario. The Geomechanics Research Centre (GRC) was established in 1987 and has since developed into an internationally recognized group for its contributions in advancing the state-of-the-art in rock mechanics and mine design. GRC strives to develop geomechanics knowledge that can be used effectively by both experts and non-specialists in industrial and socioeconomic decision making processes. Job description:
Senior Research Engineers execute R&D projects as team members or independently. They are expected to plan, undertake and report on R&D; bring or establish a working relationship with industrial partners; supervise staff or students involved in projects and to contribute to revenue generation/business development activities.

Primary activities involve laboratory and field testing ad logging; numerical modeling; data collection (mapping, instrumentation); data analysis and interpretation and reporting.

Requisite skills and qualifications:
Senior Research Engineers are expected to bring a marketable skill set that will allow the Geomechanics Research Center to attract and undertake challenging R&D projects. These qualifications include:

• Postgraduate degree (M.Sc. preferred) in Mining, Geotechnical or Geological Engineering from a recognized institution
• Eligibility for membership in PEO
• Demonstrated proposal and report writing skills
• Strong communication and problem solving capabilities
• Excellent computing and data processing skills
• Field experience is a definite asset
• Self-Starter with the desire to grow and excel in a dynamic environment
