The Mining Innovation, Rehabilitation and Applied Research Corporation (MIRARCO) is a not-for-profit applied research and technical service company at Laurentian University, in Sudbury, Ontario. The Centre for Mining Technology (CMT), one of MIRARCO's research centres, is technically leading a global consortium in mine plan optimization and developing capability in the following areas:

  • Mine planning using process optimization tools
  • Simulation and mine process modeling
  • Improved costing and financial evaluation models for mines
  • Rapid drift development technology for mining and civil industries
  • Safety and health training projects using Virtual Reality models

Job description:

You are a dynamic individual who will help contribute to and maintain a strong, self-sustaining mining research group. You will assist the Director to execute projects in mine planning, equipment design, data collection and advanced data processing. In addition, you will contribute to the management of the research group, project reporting and research proposal preparation.

Minimum required skills include:

  • Ph.D. or Masters degree with practical experience preferred
  • Demonstrated knowledge of mining operations
  • Excellent computing (modelling or simulation) and data processing skills
  • Demonstrated research or technology development experience in area relevant to CMT (www.mirarco.org)
  • Demonstrated proposal and report writing skills
  • Industrial networking experience
  • Strong communication and problem solving capabilities
  • Self-starter with the desire to grow and excel in an expanding research team
