Applied Research Corporation (MIRARCO), Professor of Mining Engineering,
Chair for Rock Engineering and Ground Control, and Director of
the Geomechanics Research Centre, is a specialist in applied research
for mining. His particular interests lie in geomechanics, tunnelling,
and applications of new technologies to mining operations in order
to increase safety and productivity.
Dr. Kaiser brings extensive experience to this area from both
the industrial and academic sectors, having served as a consulting

Mining Technology (CMT), Dr. Paul Dunn was Projects
Manager for 7 years with the CMTE (Centre for Mining Technology
and Equipment) at the University of Queensland, Australia. This
work was predominantly in new drilling and excavation technologies
for the Australian mining industry. Prior to this, Dr. Dunn spent
some years lecturing for Curtin University in Western Australia.
Dr. Dunn also spent 7 years in South Africa in the gold mines
in both production and research and development positions.
Dr. Dunn's research interests include new mining technologies,

Dr. Graeme Spiers -- Environmental Monitoring
and Waste Management
Dr. Graeme Spiers is the Chair
of Environmental Monitoring at Laurentian University. Dr. Spiers
is cross appointed in the Departments of Chemistry - Biochemistry,
Earth Sciences and Biology, and Director of the Centre for Environmental
Monitoring with MIRARCO.
Dr. Spiers has 25 years of research and facilities management
experience in academic, government and commercial laboratory environments.
His research has focused on effects of acidification and extreme
metal insult on pedologic processes, particularly as these relate
to seasonal metal fluxes to water bodies.
Over 100 publications (30 journal papers) have contributed to
the understanding of metal translocation in soil-plant systems,
and have included pioneering work in development of slurry analytical
methodologies for mineral materials.
At MIRARCO's Centre for Environmental Monitoring (CEM) his R&D
focus includes:
- Remote environmental monitoring technology development
- Environmental chemistry
- Stressed ecosystem rehabilitation and
- Aquatic system quality control
