Scholarships

In 1995 Barrick Gold Corporation and ISS International made special sponsors’ contributions to GRC. With these donations, GRC established a scholarship fund to attract graduate students to GRC’s research team. Over the last nine years, GRC has had Master’s and Ph.D. students from a number of countries, including Canada, Brazil, Ethiopia, Ghana, Germany, Great Britain, India, Iran, P.R. China, Tunisia, and Turkey.

This scholarship is awarded annually to an outstanding full-time M.Sc. or Ph.D. student in mining or civil engineering. The scholarship is valued at $6,000 for a Ph.D. and $5,000 for an M.Sc. candidate, and will automatically be supplemented by a research assistantship of $15,000 per year.

Research Assistantships

Once students have successfully completed the first term course requirements (minimum of 4) with a grade point average of 7.5, they are eligible to receive a research assistantship (RA). Funding will be commensurate with NSERC funding levels. During the research component, RA’s valued between $10,000 and $15,000 are available.

Additional funding through scholarships is also available to the most qualified students, with possible research stipends exceeding $20,000.
