Seokjoon (Joon) Kim graduated in Mining & Minerals Engineering from Inha University, Inchon, South Korea in 1997 and received his M.Eng.(with thesis) degree in Rock Mechanics from the same university in 1999. Prior to joining the M.Sc.(Eng.) program in Explosives & Blasting Engineering at Queen's University, Kingston, Ontario, he worked for Sambo Engineering Co., Ltd., Seoul, South Korea as a geotechnical engineer(specialized in Tunnelling) and conducted several major turn-key base & alternative design projects. Topic of his second master degree program at Queen's University is an experimental investigation of the blasting effect on the grindability changes (as a part of Blasting to Downstream Optimization). It is closely related to Rock Fragmentation which will be one of his research focuses in the Geomechanics Research Centre, MIRARCO.
As a research engineer at the GRC, MIRARCO, he is now focusing on Lab & Field work for the static and dynamic testing of rock and support which include modelling activities using 3D scientific visualization tool, Gocad.
