Pavel Vasak obtained a B.Sc. degree in Geology from Brock University in 1986. A keen interest in the applied aspects of the Earth Sciences led to B.A.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in Geological Engineering and Engineering Geology from the University of Waterloo in 1989 and 1992, respectively. He is a Licensed Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario. He began his career as a Research Engineer at the Geomechanics Research Centre at Laurentian University in 1991 focusing on rock mechanics, numerical modeling and mining-induced seismicity. In 1995, he joined the Canadian Mining Research Organisation sponsored Full Wave Implementation Project at Creighton Mine (INCO Ltd.) in 1995. He joined MIRARCO in 2000 to focus on software development issues in mining, specifically data integration and object-oriented design. He is active in geomechanics research and software development of virtual reality (VR) applications for mining, focusing on the integration and visualization of geology, structural geology, stress modelling and seismic and microseismic data.
