Al Douglas joined MIRARCO's Centre for Environmental Monitoring after spending 7 years with the Centre in Mining and Mining Environment Research (CIMMER) at Laurentian University, where he studied various properties of mine backfill. He has an honours B.Sc. (Chemistry) and a MBA from Laurentian University.

While working for CEM, Al used his laboratory expertise to coordinate the setup and operation of various analytical instruments, including ICP-AES, ICP-MS and X-Ray systems. He also assisted in proposal writing, student training and thesis supervision. Al has recently taken on the position of Project and Staff Coordination for MIRARCO. In this position he will be responsible for human resource planning; project coordination; employee recruitment and selection; skill development and training and performance evaluation.
